Dudley Library due for £200k revamp
2012-05-17 14:40:20Dudley Library is to get a makeover in a £200,000 project.
Work is about to start on the library in St James Road to make it brighter and more welcoming for the 5,000 visitors it attracts each week.
Over the coming months, the library will be decorated and reorganised to make it easier for people to find books, CDs and other items available to borrow. Most of the existing shelving and carpet, which has been in place for more than 40 years, will be replaced in areas used by visitors.
Work to start on revamp of Fort George Highlanders' Museum
2012-05-17 14:39:12A £130,000 grant from Historic Scotland means work can start next week on redeveloping the Highlanders' Museum at Fort George, near Inverness.
Fundraisers still need to find £150,000 to meet the £2.9 million needed to complete the revamp.
Enough money has been raised to allow work to begin on what will become the Highland Military Heritage Centre.
It will be dedicated to the Cameron Highlanders, Seaforth Highlanders and Queen's Own Highlanders.
Old Trafford hotel plans to go ahead
2012-05-17 14:36:28Trafford Council has granted planning permission for a £20 million hotel next to the Old Trafford home of Manchester United football club.
The 139-room, 10-storey property will be developed by former Manchester United football star Gary Neville and will include leisure facilities and a supporters club.
Plans to change the face of Pitsea are given the green light
2012-05-17 14:35:58Plans to change the face of Pitsea have been given approval.
At a meeting on Tuesday evening councillors at Basildon voted in favour of the plans.
Under the proposals Pitsea swimming pool and the Aldi store in Northlands Pavement will be bulldozed to make way for a giant Morrisons superstore.
The Railway Hotel will also be bulldozed and Pitsea market will be moved to its site.
Ambitious plans to restore Westlegate House approved
2012-05-17 14:35:12Plans for Westlegate House have been given the go ahead by councillors.
The 11-storey tower, in the heart of the city centre, has been empty for more than 15 years, but at a meeting today city councillors agreed it can be turned into flats.
The tower was bought by Norwich-based FW Properties and London company Soho Estates, last summer and today secured the green light they have been seeking.
Their plans will see two extra floors created at the top of the building, with each floor containing a single apartment.
At a planning meeting held at City Hall today, councillors unanimously agreed to grant planning permission for the various elements of the scheme.
Plan for 6,100 new Broxtowe homes selected for approval

A packed meeting at Broxtowe Borough Council saw councillors approve the scheme following four hours of debate.
